I witnessed plenty of fighting chess in the penultimate round of the top group today. Personally I was pretty lucky to win quickly on the fourth board thanks to a gift I unexpectedly received from my opponent (and friend) Jaap Vogel as early as on move 17. Until now I was the one to blunder in most of my games here but today I simply had no chance to commit one as Jaap was faster.

Most public attention was naturally paid to the three leading boards on my left hand side where the favourites were struggling for the chance to win the top honours tomorrow, nevertheless I found the lower rated game on the fifth board just next to me especially exciting with plenty of tactical finesses. The winner is a 19 years old talented player from Zutphen who has been brought up in Apeldoorn chess.

21.Qc4?? [Both players missed the fantastic saving move  21.Bb5!!
